- Sales, customer billing, customer receipts. Sales are the life blood of your business. Broadly speaking, product sales and/or services provided can be on a cash/credit card basis or an invoiced basis, where your business bills customers with a paper or electronic invoice/statement. Cash basis sales requires regular bank deposits and logging those deposits in the checkbook. Credit card sales require specialized tasks depending on your 3rd party credit card service for logging receipts from this service in the checkbook. If your business requires sending an invoice or statement for services provided (or products sold), this can be a further very time consuming and onerous task.
- Expenses, bills, employee and vendor payments. Everyone’s headache, bills, but a necessary task. Payments to employees require the sub-task of calculating net pay – the computation of gross pay, less federal and state income tax and FICA tax withholdings and any other required withholdings to equal net pay to an employee. This payroll sub-task further requires the depositing with the government of employee taxes withheld plus the employer share of FICA, and the filing of tax withholding returns (such as Federal Form 941, and various state returns).
